My Dream Kitchen

We plan to be in this house forever (or at least a very long time). This was my chance to get my dream kitchen. After having such a small kitchen with very little bench and storage space I knew exactly what I wanted. I also have a scullery (I will talk more about this another day). The glass door you see is the one for the scullery, there is a plain door to the left which is my walk-in-pantry. The dropped ceiling over the kitchen i love as it sections the kitchen off and adds a nice feature.

One thing I knew I wanted was lots of drawers. I find drawers great storage as you can access them well. With cupboards its not as easy to access the back of the cupboard, especially on the lower shelf. All cupboards and drawers in my house are on soft closers, if you are doing a reno or you're building consider this upgrade (if not included) as lovely not having any slam or bang. They also help keep the contents inside the drawer from moving around if the drawer is closed too hard.

Another 'must have' was a bin drawer. Its great not having to find a place for the bin. It keeps everything contained inside (including any smells). One bin for recycling and the other for rubbish. I use the little drawer above for tea towels and bin bags.

In our last house the only space for the microwave was below the bench. I really didn't like this, I didn't like the kids being able to easily access it mostly. It was important for me to have it up high. Again with the oven I didn't want it below the bench, I also prefer the look of wall ovens. We went with 1.5 oven. The bottom part comes in good use when needing to cook lots, keep food warm or bake dessert when cooking a meal. The stove top is 900mm wide. I use the wok burner in the middle mostly. I found with 600mm stove top in our last house is was hard to fit multiple pans and pots.

The glass splashback is metallic grey called 'Blast Grey 3'. I really wanted to finish off the space so decided to take the splashback up and over the window. When the glass splashback company came to measure they thought it was a strange request but I think it worked out really well.

The kids love to watch me when I'm in the kitchen. At first the were dragging the dining chairs over to stand on so I went to Masters and got them a couple of stools. They can now sit comfortably and watch me cook, they will often eat up here if I'm busy in the kitchen. It's great to have an island bench with no sink or anything in it. Will come in handy at the kids birthdays this year to put all the food on.

These little ceramic planters are a nice edition to the kitchen. It's nice to go with something a little different. I ordered them from an etsy store called  Light + Ladder. When they arrived they looked a bit too cream for my kitchen so I painted them white.
Tip: Use small rocks in the bottom before filling with soil as this will allow drainage.

And last but not least... my pretty KitchenAid Mixer in Apple Green. This is how the green in my main living space started.
