5 Ways To Make Your House A Home + Give Away

This post is brought to you by Air Wick Candles

Often when renting or in a new house it can be hard to make your house feel like a home. It could be cause you prefer no clutter so don't put out many personal items, your walls are empty or you're just missing that final touch. This list are great ways to make your house have a more homely feeling.

1) PHOTOS/ARTWORK
Display your family photos around your home. You may choose to do a photo wall or add a few frames to a shelf. There are many ways to display photos. Artwork is also another great way as art is a very personal taste. You could even get your kids to paint one for you.

2) PLANTS
I'm a big fan of plants in the home. If you don't have a green thumb or you are worried about the kids/pets messing up the soil you can find some really great artificial plants these days.

3) CANDLES
Candles are not only great to add a lovely scent to your home, they add warmth. Air Wick sent me some lovely scented candles to try in my home. I got a little surprise when I lit my Silhouette candle... a coloured light came on and it was changing colours. I clearly did not read the box... what a pleasant surprise. Hubby is fascinated. If candles are not your thing perhaps you could add a reed diffuser in your favourite scent.

4) FEATURE LIGHTS
This one may not be as simple in a rental home unless you buy the cord that goes into the current light fitting. You can find these at ikea and possibly freedom. Be bold with your choices and make them a statement in your home. In our old house we didnt really have any nice lights just standard ones. Nearly each room in our current home a nice light fixture and it makes a big difference. Choose warm light globes to create warmth.

5) CUSHIONS
An empty sofa is no where near as inviting as one with cushions, whether you match a few or mix lots it is a great way to add colour and/or texture.

Air Wick are giving you the chance to win your very own Silhilouettes French Vanilla Romance and Sweet Summer Fruits- Lemonade Stand Candle. To enter you simply have to submit your best tip for making your house a home. For a bonus entry visit Lime & Mortar's Facebook page.

Oh this is a great post for us at the moment. We are only in the rental for 6 months so it's hard to get motivated to get too much unpacked!!
